OG Straws for Search & Rescue: A New Fundraising Initiative Supporting First Responders

Vancouver, BC – October 2025 — Naturally OG Straws, a Shaffer Farms brand, has announced the launch of OG Straws for Search & Rescue, a province-wide fundraising effort designed to support the vital work of volunteer and professional first responders.

OG Straws are eco-friendly, carbon-negative straws made from Canadian rye grass. For every case of 500 straws sold to bars, restaurants, and cafés, Naturally OG Straws will donate $5 directly to Search and Rescue organizations in British Columbia. These funds will help provide equipment, training, and resources for teams who risk their lives in the back woods, on the water, and in the mountains to save others.

“Having served in Ground Search and Rescue myself, I know how critical even the smallest piece of equipment can be in the field,” said Gerald Shaffer, founder of Naturally OG Straws, a Shaffer Farms Brand. “This program is personal. Every straw we sell helps ensure SAR volunteers have the tools they need to bring people home safely.”

Participating establishments will receive OG Straws at competitive wholesale pricing, along with promotional materials featuring the OG Straws for Search & Rescue badge. This allows bars and cafés to proudly show patrons that every drink served not only reduces plastic waste but also supports the brave men and women who keep our communities safe.

Naturally OG Straws is now calling on BC bars, pubs, and restaurants to join the initiative. Together, small actions — and small straws — can make a big difference.
